Tints
Praise for Tints:
'…a fine little volume that’s most crisply and handsomely executed. I am very pleased that I bought what, on the surface, some might see as just a swatch book. It is a deceptive production, with lots of thought gone into it. The design is impeccable, with the title spread particularly “chef’s kiss”.'
Mark Askam
'I simply have no words to describe how glad I am with it. What a beautiful beautiful peace of work! It’s already my favourite book in all respects: design, type, colour, printing, binding!'
Bert Ritgers
For me, mixing small quantities of ink for relief printing has often produced inconsistent tints across print runs, and I end up wasting time and resources. I think the only way to get an accurate and repeatable tint from transparent white and a base colour, is to actually print them with inks mixed by weight.
This is a book showing a selection of eight ink colours, from Hawthorn Printmaker Supplies, and how to tint them using weighed out ink in ratios of transparent white to base colour. The ratios shown are base colour, 3/1, 10/1, 30/1, 100/1 and 200/1.
The 16 page book is printed letterpress in 8 and 11pt Monotype Grotesque with 36pt square border units, and bound in white Windsor book cloth printed letterpress with the title in a gradient of the colours. The endpapers are 175gsm Colorplan Slate. Limited to an edition of 20.
